Rants

When I just didn't have anything better to do...

The Fantasy Rant - September 12, 2005. It's been a while since I've written a solid rant. This one's aimed at modern Fantasy. Please note that there are, of course, exceptions to every rule. I do like reading Pratchett, for example. But then there are some books that make me cringe... This rant goes out to the authors of those works.

Dear GameCore - March 8, 2005. My comments on videogames and violence. Small technical note: on the rest of this site, you may notice that I spell "videogame" as one word. CBS uses the two-word variant (I guess it depends on dialect or something), so I've used their convention throughout this letter.

Otakon 2004 - Really more of a report than a rant, but still... I had a good time, and I just wanted to journalize it.

On Fahrenheit 9/11 - June 26, 2004. There are a lot of views on this controversial movie... Well, here's my impression of it.

Linux - May 18, 2004. Mostly deals with Suse 9.1 and the KDE desktop applications with it.

Aetre's Guide to Essays - February 21, 2004. I for one loathe essay and research paper assignments; teachers and professors make you do about a thousand of these things in school, and yet, you learn next to nothing from them. Well, here's a guide for those of you who want to know, step-by-step, how to write a school essay without all the sweat. It literally contains guidelines for each and every sentence in the essay. I sincerely hope this helps some people out there, but I must put a disclaimer here: I take no responsibility for your grades, whether you use this essay template or not.

On Howard Dean (political rant) - September 8, 2003. Anybody remember this guy? He was running in the 2004 Presidential race, but he lost in the primaries. Well, Howard Dean came to my college campus and gave a speech. I was not impressed.

On Being a Physics Major (college rant) - September, 2003. Someone asked me if, because I was a physics major, I would end up being an engineer someday. This was my response.

On Fanfiction - June 9, 2004. A brief rant about the genre.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Aftermath - September, 2001. I wrote this just days before 9/11; had it been written a week later, I would have altered the title. Oh well. This actually ended up being my generic essay for the college application process. It received a great amount of praise from the faculty at my high school. I found this odd, really, because I was just writing my thoughts down at about 1am. Heck, I didn't even take this thing seriously until after I got the acceptance letter from my university.

The Fiction Writer's Ten Commandments - 2003. Planning on writing fiction in the near future? This might help.

More rants will come as soon as I write them.
